Sneak Peek: The Third Charm

This time I want to make a short review of Seo Kang Joon's new drama entitled The Third Charm. This drama is directed by Pyo Min Soo and stars Seo Kang Joon and Esom. The story in this drama explores the real side of relationships between couples. 

Starting on the eve of the change from 2012 to 2013, that night Ohn Joon Young (Seo Kang Joon), who works as a police officer, along with several of his colleagues, will carry out a raid at a nightclub. It was alleged that there was someone at that place who was going to deliver drugs ordered by an artist. After they had been on guard for some time, someone suspected of being a drug courier came into the nightclub. After waiting for a signal from Ohn Joon Young, they moved into the nightclub. There was a commotion between the police and the club employees. They forced their way inside to find drug couriers and drug users.

Unexpectedly, while his members were busy fighting after the drug courier and the people in the club cheered to welcome the new year, Ohn Joon Young saw a woman from his past. The woman was Young Jae (Esom), his first love and the evil woman he never wanted to see again. They both stared at each other in silence while all around them there was a commotion mixed with the hustle and bustle of New Year's Eve.

Flashback to 7 years ago.

At that time their first meeting was on the underground train, there was a man who committed an indecent act against another female passenger. At that time Young Jae was annoyed and angry seeing the man's behavior. Then because he couldn't stand it anymore, Young Jae finally reprimanded the man. The man had time to argue and refused to admit his actions. Until when the train stopped at a station and the train door opened, the man immediately ran out, then Young Jae chased the man and dragged him to the police station. The man insisted on not admitting his actions and instead accused Young Jae of wanting to blackmail him. There was an argument until finally Joon Young came with his camera. Apparently Joon Young always recorded every incident that happened in front of him. The man couldn't do anything because it was clear in Joon Young's video recording that there was evidence of him committing sexual harassment. Young Jae was very grateful because Joon Young had helped her. That was their first meeting.

Joon Young, when he was in his 20s, was a young man who looked ugly, wore glasses, braces, and was very stiff. He has never had a girlfriend and seems insecure about approaching women. However, he is a smart student and diligent in cooking.

Meanwhile, Young Jae is a girl who is honest, firm, and often does things spontaneously. Both of his parents are gone. He and his older brother grew up raised by their grandmother, and after his grandmother died, he now only depends on his older brother. Young Jae works part time at a salon, he dreams of becoming a stylist. To lighten his brother's burden, he chose to work and not go to college.

That day, Joon Young was invited by his friends to go on a blind date with girls from another university. Actually, he was reluctant to come because he lacked confidence. From home, he had prepared himself and dressed neatly. In a cafe, Joon Young and his three friends waited for the arrival of the girls they wanted to go on a blind date with, but only three people came and Joon Young didn't have a partner. These three girls are actually Young Jae's high school friends, but one of them, So Hee, doesn't seem to like Young Jae because she thinks Young Jae is not at their level because Young Jae is not a student.

Because they lacked personnel, finally So Hee was forced to ask her other friend to call Young Jae to come on the blind date. Receiving this invitation, Young Jae was very happy. After getting permission from the salon owner's aunt, Young Jae finally came to the blind date.

In the cafe, it turned out that Joon Young was alone, waiting for Young Jae to arrive, while his friends had already gone on dates with their respective partners. Young Jae was very happy because it turned out that his blind date was the man who had helped him catch the man who committed sexual harassment on the KRL. However, not for Joon Young. When he saw that the girl who came was Young Jae, he was shocked because Young Jae was not the type of girl he liked, he didn't like fierce girls.

Eventually they went on a play date to an amusement park, ate spicy rice cakes, and entered a beer drinking contest. Initially, Joon Young accidentally took part in this beer drinking contest, because he couldn't bear to eat spicy food, so he finally dared to challenge the other participants in the competition just to get rid of the spicy taste in his mouth. Because he drank too much beer, Joon Young came home very drunk.

The next day, Joon Young realizes that their bags were mixed up while they were drunk last night. The bag he was carrying belonged to Young Jae which contained salon equipment. Then, he asked the friend who asked him on a blind date last night for Young Jae's telephone number. Joon Young took the initiative to go to the salon where Young Jae worked to exchange his bag back. It was already evening and the salon was empty of customers. 

Just about to call his friend, Young Jae was surprised because the one who came first carrying a bag was Joon Young. After a while in a stiff atmosphere, Young Jae offers Joon Young to curl his hair. Initially, Joon Yong was reluctant. However, Young Jae managed to convince Joon Young that curly hair would really suit him. Of course, this is an opportunity for Young Jae to practice his skills while there is someone who wants to be a guinea pig.

After waiting 1 hour 45 minutes, it was time to wash my hair. Young Jae slowly removed the hair clip on Joon Young's head, he hoped the results would be as good as he promised.
When opening the clothespins on Joon Young's head one by one while accompanied by a romantic song, sometimes their eyes met. Joon Young began to realize that Young Jae was a beautiful girl with bright eyes and smooth lip lines. Without realizing it, they were caught in a romantic atmosphere, then Young Jae spontaneously kissed Joon Young on the lips until finally they both realized and returned to their awkward state after the music they were playing stopped.

The next day, Joon Young looked a little different with his new curly hair. Her heart was still full of flowers from yesterday's kiss because it was her first kiss. He took the initiative to invite Young Jae to meet. When he was about to call Young Jae, he was disturbed by the presence of his younger sister who really wanted to know what her older sister was doing and without realizing it, she pressed the speed dial button to call Young Jae while he was pushing his younger sister out of the room. He was so shocked that Young Jae finally called back.

Apparently Joon Young wanted to meet Young Jae that day, he would wait for Young Jae at the station and he had prepared a gift for Young Jae.

Before meeting Joon Young, Young Jae met her future brother-in-law at a mall. Unnie bought her a beautiful red dress as requested by Young Jae's sister who wanted her sister to start dating a man. From the mall, Young Jae rushed to meet Joon Young at the agreed place. Joon Young had arrived first because he decided to leave earlier than the agreed time. After meeting, they agreed to go to the cinema. As usual, Joon Young was forced by Young Jae to watch a movie that was not his favorite genre until Joon Young almost threw up because of fear.

When the bus arrived, before getting on the bus, Young Jae told Joon Young that if he came to the campus event tomorrow it would mean they were dating, and conversely if he didn't come to the event it would mean they weren't dating. Hearing this, Joon Young was very happy and he hoped that Young Jae would come the next day.

The next day at the campus event, Joon Young is anxiously awaiting Young Jae's arrival. He really hopes that Young Jae will come and that means he officially has a girlfriend. Seeing Joon Young upset because the person he was waiting for never came, a friend muttered that the woman Joon Young was waiting for would never come.

But it turns out that Young Jae came in a new red dress that her future sister-in-law bought. She is so beautiful that Joon Young and his friends are amazed, some even regret why they didn't choose Young Jae on their blind date. 

Joon Young was very happy that Young Jae came, he then gave Young Jae a red rose.

In this event there is a dance party, the winning couple will get a pair of rings. There were several couples who went up to the dance stage. The event was very lively. Young Jae and Joon Young looked happily immersed in the event, then slowly Young Jae whispered to Joon Young that this was their first day, which meant that today they were officially dating and becoming a couple. Hearing this, Joon Young was almost shocked and couldn't believe he was so happy.

Meanwhile, Young Jae is challenged to participate in the dance competition. However, it seems that someone doesn't like Young Jae's presence, namely So Hee, Young Jae's high school friend.

Young Jae went up to the dance stage and danced sexily. Joon Young also danced even though their movements were not in sync. 

When the dancing competition is over, the winner is announced who is entitled to a pair of the couple's rings. The winner was Young Jae and he was asked to come up on stage. MC asked him to introduce himself, what his name was, and what university he came from. Young Jae, who felt he was not a student, felt nervous about the question, he was unable to say anything among the group of students who were looking at him. How should he begin to answer that he was just a high school graduate and not a student. Meanwhile, in front of him, Joon Young encouraged him to say what he really was.
Seeing this situation, So Hee, who really doesn't like Young Jae, secretly takes the opportunity to embarrass Young Jae. He told everyone that Young Jae was a part-time worker at a salon and was not a student, he couldn't afford to go to college because his grades were bad in high school, and Young Jae came from a poor family.
Then, So Hee opened Young Jae's bag and the salon equipment that was in Young Jae's bag fell out. Seeing So Hee throw away the bag and its contents, Young Jae was so angry that he finally argued and slapped So Hee in the face. So Hee didn't accept it and then responded to Young Jae with a punch. A fight broke out that was difficult to break up. When it stopped, Young Jae ran from the place. Joon Young is confused when he sees this, then goes out to chase Young Jae, but doesn't find him.

Young Jae comes home angry. Meanwhile, Joon Young goes home feeling guilty. He kept calling Young Jae's cell phone, but there was no answer. The next day he met Young Jae at the salon to return the things Young Jae had left behind, but Young Jae just took his bag and didn't say anything. His attitude was cold towards Joon Young after the incident.

Joon Young was very sad, he kept waiting for Young Jae and tried to contact Young Jae but there was never an answer, he didn't know what else to do, he felt this was all his fault for inviting Young Jae to attend his campus event. He even cried in front of his friends, until finally he had the strength to meet Young Jae at his house. He waited for Young Jae on the rooftop of Young Jae's house.
A few moments later Young Jae came home, seeing Joon Young in front of him. Young Jae tried to cover up his sadness by speaking harshly to Joon Young, he said that all of this was Joon Young's fault because he had invited him to the event, where he looked very sad. He even really hates men who are slow and stiff. Hearing the words Young Jae said, Joon Young couldn't say anything. In the pouring rain, his heart was broken and his feelings were hurt. His love ended in just one day.

Since that day, Joon Young never trusted women again. In his sadness, he finally decided to take a leave of absence from college to go to military service. After returning home from military service, he saw a police recruitment brochure. With his high GPA, he applied to become a police officer, and was accepted.

So how does the story continue, chingudeul? You must be curious, right, how they finally met again after being apart for a long time. I'm really happy that finally the nosy Joon Young has changed his appearance into a perfectly handsome police officer. Honestly, I can't stand seeing Seo Kang Joon wearing braces and big glasses 😂.
